1. Grap a tree branch between your thumb and forefinger and pull it toward you. At most only a few needles should come off in your hand if the tree is fresh.
Prepping the Christmas tree.
Have the employess at the Christmas tree lot make a fresh clean cut to the trunk on the tree, right before taking the Christmas tree home. The cut needs to be a couple inches off the bottom of the tree trunk . When they are cut, the tree produce a sap that comes out and seals the trunk, prevent the tree from getting water. The cut removes the sap and the tree will be able to absorb fresh water.
When you bring your tree home, be sure to put it in water immediately. Once a tree is cut, it will lose moisture quickly. Dot let the bottom of the tree dry out it could lead a shorter lifespan your family's Christmas tree. The tree can absorb a gallon of water in one day.Keep the tree stand filled with fresh clean water.The Christmas tree water levels should never go below the tree’s base. A seal of sap will form over the cut tree trunk in a few hours if the water drops below the base of the tree.Do not use hot water for the tree, it does not help.
